      (1890–1968) US swimmer and surfer, born in the kingdom of Hawaii; full name Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku. The developer of the flutter kick, he won the 100–yard freestyle gold medals in the 1912 and 1920 Olympic Games, as well as an 800–meter relay gold medal in the 1920 games.
