      (1877–1910), English motoring and aviation pioneer. He and Henry Royce formed the company Rolls-Royce Ltd in 1906. Rolls was the first Englishman to fly across the English Channel, and made the first double crossing in 1910 shortly before he was killed in an air crash. The Rolls-Royce company established its reputation with luxury cars and produced aircraft engines used in both world wars.
